Tips To Prevent Carpet Stains

Posted by: RestoreMore on April 5, 2021

Carpets are a big part of our businesses in Racine. Because they are exposed to so many different things, carpet stains are, unfortunately, unavoidable.  Trying to remove stains can be difficult, and using store-bought chemicals or DIY tricks can make the stains worse or cause further damage to our carpets. Luckily Restore More offers professional carpet cleaning to help commercial business owners remove pesky stains, and keep carpets clean and looking their best. Along with offering professional commercial carpet cleaning services, we also wanted to share some of our best tips to help prevent carpet stains

  1. Do not wear shoes on the carpet

Shoes can carry in the dirt, grime, bacteria, and other substances that can stain carpeting. Shoes also have thicker treads on the bottom, so when they are worn on your carpets they push dirt, debris, and dust deep into your carpets fibers – contributing to stains and discoloration. Taking your shoes off and leaving them at the door will reduce the amount of dirt, mud, and all other outside contaminants that damage your carpet, and will minimize stains. Not only will removing your shoes keep your carpets cleaner, but it will also extend your carpet’s life by reducing the wear and tear that your carpet sustains.

  1. Cover your carpets with rugs or plastic mats

One of the best ways to prevent staining of your carpet is to cover your carpet. Rugs are a great way to not only add decorative accents in a room but also protect your carpets. Plastic mats can be used under furniture or areas where carpets are exposed to food and liquids. Carpet in high traffic areas is even more susceptible to staining so consider using rugs in those areas to keep carpets safe and clean.

  1. Clean up spills as soon as they happen

Even with all safety precautions in place, accidents and spills can still happen. If you respond to spills as soon as they happen, you can prevent them from staining. You should avoid rubbing anything over spills as rubbing can actually push stains further and deeper into carpet strands. Instead, dab up the spill and treat it with carpet stain removers right away to prevent it from drying and settling deeper.

  1. Treat your carpets with stain resistance treatments

Some professional carpet cleaners have a stain-resistant treatment they can apply to your carpets to make them more stain-resistant. These kinds of treatments add a seal over the surface of your carpet that can repel spills and prevent them from soaking into the carpet. Many new carpets come with this protection already applied, but you can have a professional come apply one on your existing carpets.

While this treatment will not prevent all stains, it will help make your carpet more resistant.

  1. Clean your carpets regularly

You should vacuum your carpets at least once to twice each week to remove surface dirt and keep it from penetrating deeper into the carpet fibers. It is important to remember that vacuuming only removes surface dirt though, and your carpets require deeper cleaning to keep them looking their best and prevent stains from being trapped down in the fibers. Having your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year will help to remove dirt and debris that is embedded deeper into your carpet.

Remember, routine carpet cleaning is a great way to keep your carpets clean and fresh and to help the carpet fibers last longer. If you are in need of a professional carpet cleaning, call the professionals at Restore More today!
